Guided Wilderness Float and Remote Base Fishing Trips
Alaskan Style Adventure... Interested in an exciting and memorable float or remote base fishing trip into the Alaskan wilderness filled with fishing and nature? Join us on one of our guided float or remote base fishing trips on the Talachulitna River at a price you'll like as much as the adventure. From a year round background living in the bush for 10 years with the Talachulitna River as our backyard, we have the gear and knowledge to make your Alaskan dream come true. A Float Fishing Trip Quick Overview: We start our scenic wilderness float fishing trips at the Tal's midpoint. Shortly after our put-in, we'll head down through Hell's Gate followed by class I until the next canyon. Class II to III canyons with some standing waves, a few rocks and easy boulders provide an adventure-filled trip through this wilderness. Unlike other streams with more whitewater than fishing holes, the Talachulitna provides almost continuous fishing mixed with adventure. With class I water in between the canyons, wildlife and fish abound. We spend our time fishing on these trips with early morning and late evenings bringing the hits. With our almost endless sunlight during the summer, late night fishing is the norm. You'll enjoy nature and this wilderness float from a comfortable 16' cataraft (designed to fish from), camping each night on a gravel bar and enjoying our fine river dining all on one of Alaska's finest rivers. Our riverside camps are very comfortable with generous space in the tents; 2 people in a 6 person tent, cots, sleeping bags, and great meals. Fishing on a float trip is a great way to fish Alaska and on the Talachulitna you'll enjoy catching Rainbow Trout, Salmon and Grayling right from our catarafts with fishing platforms and lean bars. This trip is a slow, non-rushed trip. You won't be hurried to get to the next stop. In fact, when the fish are hitting that's where we'll be, right in the water with them. When we reach the confluence with the swift, glacial Skwentna River you'll get a last chance to fish while we prepare for the pickup by the bush plane. You'll travel with only 2 guests and one guide per raft getting top service with this ratio and, with the guide as the oarsman, you can sit back and enjoy the river and fish. Need a 7 day float fishing trip on the Talachulitna to target the fat rainbows of mid summer? Try our Rainbow Float where we cover the entire river from the head waters at Judd Lake to the confluence with the Skwentna River. We will be targeting the native rainbows that are in search of the kings' eggs. This trip is 7 days and 6 nights with all of the standard amenities of our guided trips. The water level will be lower than early season floats and require more wading. However, most of us prefer to wade fish anyway, so with the rafts bringing up the rear with the gear what a more perfect way to target some fat rainbows and see the wilderness of Alaska! See our prices below for booking details of this 7 day float fishing trip on the Tal. A Remote Base Fishing Trip Quick Overview: We start our wilderness remote base fishing trips with a chartered bush flight and boat transfer to the mouth of the Talachulitna. Upon our arrival at the Talachulitna, we'll rig up and start fishing! Depending on the fish you're targeting, we'll move either up river or fish right at the mouth. Our remote base camp is operated from our Skwentna River Camp, about 3 miles down river in a very remote and quiet setting. A very comfortable safari style set up - cots, 2 anglers per 6 person wall tent, a large dining wall tent and great meals make this a unique location. We boat up to the mouth of the Talachulitna each day starting at 5:45 AM for the 15 minute ride and return at 6:00 PM for the evening meal. ![]() On the Talachulitna we fish a 3 mile section of the river from the mouth up to the first canyon. This stretch is loaded with great riffles and holes just right for rainbows, grayling, dollies and all 5 Pacific salmon. Want to sight fish to huge salmon? We have the spots where you can pick out an individual fish, cast to it, watch it track your fly or spinner and then take it! Nothing's more fun in the fishing world and we have the flies and top wogs to get the most enjoyment from sight fishing. Each day is filled with morning salmon fishing and afternoon "bow hunting" for rainbows as well as grayling and dollies. Snacks and lunch are served on the water where you're fishing, not back at camp, so you'll get the most fishing each day. This trip is great for those looking for maximum fishing time and those looking for a less strenuous trip than the float fishing trip. When's the best time to schedule a Remote Base Fishing Trip? Looking for Kings? Book from June 20th - July 10th with the peak usually being the 1st of July. Looking for Sockeye, Chums and Pinks? Try the last week in July or the first week in August. August is the month of the Silvers with the 15th being the normal peak week. Bring your clothes, waders, rods and reels for a great Alaska fishing trip. For King salmon you'll need a stout rig. Bring your best light and heavy setups for Rainbows to Salmon.
We don't mix parties unless you are only a party of 2 and would like to lessen the trip cost by joining another party of 2. Larger parties than 4 are always welcomed. Your group is our sole concern during these special wilderness trips. The Talachulitna also offers outstanding photographic opportunities of landscapes, wildlife and wildflowers as well as the memorable shots you'll want of the great fishing so don't forget your camera gear.
