    Flats Fishing
    On the World's Second
    Largest Barrier Reef
    - Caribbean's Hottest Fishery and Tour Destination -

A Grand Slam of All Three In One Day
    Or Your First Bone,
It's More Than Just a Fishing Trip...

A Grand Slam of a tarpon, bonefish and permit in one day is an amazing and coveted accomplishment in any saltwater fly fisher's book. Catching your first bonefish, an amazing thrill. Throw in a location on the world's second largest barrier reef, ancient Maya ruins, and the chance to dive on Jacques Cousteau's Blue Hole and you have a fishing destination that meets everyone's appetite for adventure.

Located off the coast of Belize is the island of Ambergris Caye, the hot spot for saltwater fly fishing and much more. Tarpon, bonefish and permit along with snook, crevalle jack and barracuda make this a fly fisher's dream location. Our central location on Ambergris Caye gives us the flexibility for quick access to all that the island has to offer from daytime fishing and other activities to nighttime Caribbean style atmosphere in San Pedro Town only a few minutes away.Picture yourself holding this!

Belize understands the importance of the 3 grand slam fish and highly values the income generated by the saltwater fly fisher to the country, and is working toward catch and release only laws for these 3 fish species ensuring their sustainability. You can rest assured that your money spent in Belize is helping to ensure the protection these amazing fish deserve - your grandchildren will be able to throw a fly at the same tarpon you once tried for.

Your stay with us is at our newly constructed 2 bedroom, 2 bath deluxe accommodation with individual exterior entrances to each bedroom located within Reef Village where the ocean and the lagoon border both sides of this resort - you literally can see the Caribbean Sea out one window and the lagoon out the other. This resort has the quiet privacy and security you desire with full amenities (pool, bar, and more) while still being only minutes from all the action of the island. Your accommodations are staffed 24 hours a day to respond to any of your needs.

    Your Guides:

The fly fishing guides we use are the same independent Belizean guides working the island that guide the majority of all anglers and many are now in the second generation with fathers working along side sons. These are the guides you need to up the success rate during your stay. They know the waters and the fish and hunt for them day in and day out. All are English speaking and very hard workers assisting you in achieving your goal - none of the high pressure one gets from other destination guides. Belize guides are here to help you have a great time, not to judge your performance. As world fly fishers ourselves we know what is expected from your guide and we strive to ensure the expectations are met.

For tours and for those in your group that are not fishing, the local Belizean tour guides are some of the most experienced and knowledgeable people you'll ever meet. For touring the many sights and sounds of Ambergris Caye and San Pedro Town you'll have a personal guide to escort you about and be your chauffeur in true golf cart style.

    The Fish & Gear:

Each day you'll rise and eat a hardy breakfast then get ready to head out with your guide for the day's fishing departing by 7:00 AM or at a time that coincides with the tides, but generally an early start. You'll fish until noon when you'll enjoy a stop off at any of the many islets for lunch and if the desire strikes you, a short nap and then it's back to the fish. Fishing usually ends around 3:00 PM when you'll head back to clean up and meet at the thatch roofed bar to discuss the one that didn't get away.

All of the fish in Belize are here year round. Some months, due to weather, spawning, etc. are better than others but good fishing is the norm each day regardless of when you visit. Weather can be a problem but is generally short lived and with no real seasons, a cold front is the extent of the problems you'll have to deal with. Wind, well this is the Caribbean and it is flat. Learning to cast in the wind is a must.

    Tarpon:
Ambergris Caye not only has resident tarpon but migrating tarpon visit each summer. While the resident tarpon are classed as baby tarpon, 50 pounds and under, the migrating adults can reach 100+ pounds. The tarpon is one of the ocean's most amazing fish in that it can breathe air similar to us and will get juiced when making the spectacular full body jumps forcing you to "bow to the king." Tarpon are the most acrobatic of all fish and a favorite of many saltwater fly fishers. Fighting a "baby" on a 10 wt rod is a challenge let alone the fight one gets from a 100 pounder. May - September are the migrating months of the large tarpon. The 3 Grand Slammers.

    Bonefish:
Pound for pound the toughest fish in the ocean. Nothing like a bonefish to smoke your reel (and thumbnail if it's in the way) while it makes a powerful run peeling off more than 100 yards of line, and there's nothing you can do to stop him. Bonefish are very plentiful here in Belize and average 2-3 pounds - not huge but plentiful and if you are looking for your first bone, this is the place. Bonefish are here in large numbers year round and April - September can bring excellent action.

    Permit:
Permit are the ultimate on most saltwater fly fishers' list. One of the spookiest fish, a hard fighter, and just down right tough to catch, the permit is the one that can thwart your best efforts to achieve the grand slam. But persistence eventually pays off, even when searching for the elusive permit. Although here year round with very good fishing, Feburary - May brings the excellent times for permit.

    Snook, Crevalle Jack and Barracuda:
Just as in other locations, snook like the backwaters and barracuda, well barracuda like food, plain and simple. One of the most overlooked game fish on a fly is the crevalle jack. A fighter that will run you well into your backing and force the boat to follow. The size of a small permit they have the fight of a much bigger fish.

    Gear:
You'll want to bring an 8 weight rod and matching reel with plenty of backing (200 yards) for bones and most permit. A 10 weight minimum is the rod choice for tarpon and even permit on windy days. While the 8 wt is the better casting rod, a 10 wt can provide the casting power needed in heavy winds and more fighting power for bigger fish.

Bring a floating line in the matching weight. Most tarpon and bonefish lines work well being interchanged. We provide all flies and leader material. We have a complete packing list for you when you book your trip and, since we provide all of the flies it's just one less thing you have to worry about.

    Catch & Release:
We practice catch and release with all fish species we target.

    Other Adventures:

Belize is an English speaking destination where you'll feel right at home whether conversing with your guide or the local shop owners. Other than being one of the few places where you can have a reasonable shot at the coveted saltwater grand slam, Belize offers a unique option many fishing destinations don't; adventure for everyone including the non-anglers in the group. This allows the avid angler to gain another fishing trip without leaving friends and family home.

Maya Ruins: Belize is one of the oldest and largest Maya civilizations ever discovered. Belize clearly lies in the Maya heartland with some of the earliest sites found in the country, but the A trip for even the non-angler.recent discovery of glyphs suggests that some of the Belizean centers were supreme in the region. Sites such as the famed Laminai can be a day of your fishing trip with us and something everyone will enjoy, all part of a package making the trip truly an adventure and more than just a fishing trip.

Diving and Snorkeling are also renowned here off of Ambergris Caye with the protected reserves of Shark Ray Alley and Hol Chan. We are located in the heart of the fishing and diving/snorkeling that attracts the world to these shores. You'll see the many colorful tropical fish that inhabit these waters and can also pet a shark or ray during your trip, all done while snorkeling.

Parasailing, Beach Bar-B-Qs, Catamaran Cruises, and Much More: With so many things to do in addition to hooking into some of the toughest fish in the world, we have arranged packages to help you take advantage of this wonderful adventure in paradise. So you can either fish, fish, fish or fish, fish, tour or fish and tour, it's all up to you. Belize is so wonderful and has so many things to do it's hard to see and do everything in just one trip.
